During your piano service appointment, the piano technician will need to have clear access to the insides of the instrument. It is advisable to remove all items that have been placed on the piano. Not doing so will cause the technician to remove personal items themselves, delaying the appointment as well as increasing the risk of inadvertently breaking some important keepsake.
Many pianos have panels and cabinetry that need to be removed in order to access the inner-workings of the instrument. It is not necessary for the owner to remove these as the technician will do so properly. But it is a good idea to have an area or space available for the technician to place those items while work is being performed. It is important that panels and cabinetry is safe, out of the way and does not cause any undue hazards.
A typical piano tuning appointment might take 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Any type of tuning or voicing work requires the technician to listen very carefully to the instrument. It is extremely important that the space is quiet and void of extraneous noise.
